Less than thirty-five

Less than thirty-five is a monthly news article (usually posted on the first Saturday of each month) featuring deviations that have fewer than 35 :+fav:’s and less than 10 original comments (at the time of writing). The aim is to hopefully help these underappreciated deviations, and in many cases the artists themselves, to gain more exposure and recognition.

Remind me!

:bulletpurple: If I have offered a prize of any sort for a contest, please remind me once the contest has ended! I have a really terrible memory. :XD:

New Deviant of the Week!

This may come as no surprise ...

Sun Jan 10, 2016, 1:54 PM

... but I think it's pretty obvious that I am no longer really active on dA at all. Part of it is work - I'm usually a lot busier these days, and the thought of tackling my neglected inbox just doesn't appeal - and part of it is that other sites have just drawn my attention more now. And then there is also the fact that I'm not really writing any more either. The closest I came to it was being inspired to write a few fragments after reading Anthony Doerr's poetic and beautiful All the Light We Cannot See last year. Even if I do start writing again, I wouldn't feel comfortable sharing my work here when I have not read or commented on other people's work. I am so, so sorry I've not been able to keep up with everyone's deviations.

I am sad to be writing this journal, but at the same time I know there's no point in forcing myself to like something, if that makes sense; I don't want dA to become a chore. I still treasure the friendships I've made here and I'm still so grateful for all the kind comments that people have left on my poems. I won't be deactivating or deleting anything because that feels far too final, and I guess there might be a time when I decide I do want to be active on dA again.

I won't be completely gone from dA, however. I'm still sort of tied to the SongofthePoets group (the Founder hasn't been active for a while now), and I will be checking my messages/notes every now and then. Founder role at helping-the-unknown will soon pass to Wolfy-Westy, who I'm sure will do a great job in running the group!

For those of you who do want to keep in touch via other social media, my links are below! I'm probably most active on Tumblr and Instagram. :aww:

Seilf

(Literature)

the twentieth winter (colorblind)December.
the snow hardens to ice
quiet thoughts pressed into white;
the stars grow brighter
as water is siphoned from the atmosphere
woven into the blanketed ground.
January.
the sun has stopped
trying to press through the clouds
white light from a gray sky,
black ice beneath my feet--
i am tired of watching where i step.
February.
they wrote me another prescription
trying to stop me from dissolving
into the road-salted floor.
white pills to white teeth,
white tiles to white noise.
March.
the crows are darker in the sun;
white snow to gray water
licking the salt from the sidewalks,
stars growing rosy with the heat--
only the bay knows better than to thaw.
TheifI am always plucking stars
that don't belong to me
swiping marbles from velvet bags
and long nights I never lived through
ripping stitches from stories
piece by beloved piece until I
realize I'm still unsatisfied.
The things within me beg to speak
but I never got the hang of
giving bodies to ghosts.

Seilf is an eloquent and beautiful writer.
