Less than thirty-five

Less than thirty-five is a monthly news article (usually posted on the first Saturday of each month) featuring deviations that have fewer than 35 :+fav:’s and less than 10 original comments (at the time of writing). The aim is to hopefully help these underappreciated deviations, and in many cases the artists themselves, to gain more exposure and recognition.

:xmas: revamp 2 STEP ONE
Make a post to your DA journal. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a ______ icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("all I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV."). The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your DA or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

:xmas: revamp 2 STEP TWO
Surf around your friends list (or friends' friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use -- do it.

You need not spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf -- to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not -- it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Give, and you might receive. and you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My Wishlist:

  1. Ever since I read True Grit I've wanted my own copy (I read it as an e-book) - I'm hoping I can find an old and interesting copy in a shop at some point, but I've never seen it before...
  2. Book recommendations (sorry to copy you Kathi!) - I love it when people recommend books to me! I'm open to reading anything, but don't really like fluffy / 'chick lit'-type books.
  3. That my family and friends all stay healthy and happy.
  4. Spreading the love around the dA community, whether it be through features, thoughtful comments, etc. :dalove:
  5. Spreading the love 'in real life' too, even if it's something small.
  6. That I can find time to actually properly get back into dA over the Christmas break. I've neglected it a lot and feel really guilty about it (which is partly why I keep putting it off).
  7. That I can find time to read more (work usually gets in the way :()
  8. Suggestions of unknown deviants for the helping-the-unknown features (guidelines are on the group's profile page, top left :la:)
  9. A better e-reader - I like the one I have, but it's the cheapest one so it doesn't have a lot of features and can be quite glitchy (I've had it replaced once already).
  10. Mobile phone recommendations - I've had problems with my iPhone recently and just got it replaced, but I feel like I can't trust it anymore! Any recommendations on what phone I should get next when this one finally gives out would be lovely. :)

Since (due to procrastinating as usual) I've posted this kind of late, I'm sure a lot of people have already been tagged in this, but I will tag: ithaswhatitisnt , chromeantennae , AlwaysRainCheck , franthepan

Eternali. In psychology, association is defined as a connection of ideas, memories or feelings between each other or events.
Melissa once had birds in her feet.
She knows it because they were stolen. All she has left are the brittle bones and marks that might have been left by feathers, light as a dove’s trace. It’s painful. It makes it hard to walk, and she’s always walking.
When The Others took over the city, people like Melissa suffered greatly. People who had pretty birds and other things to lose. But now The Others have lost control to bandits and fledgling rogue groups. The rest of the citizens are just drifting. There’s no government, no power, no clamp to grip the city and squeeze productivity out of it like a dying machine.
So Melissa walks. She trails along the sides of the streets where girls like her could never walk before, smiling in the open sunlight but never forgetting her mission. She walks to track down the thieves who wronged her. She
In a world where there are bats and OctobersIt’s after five p.m., I haven’t had caffeine since midday, and talking to strangers is as appealing as swallowing warts.
It’s early October and the evening sky is alight with orange. It’s the kind of orange that tells tales of the bushfire season roaring into life; the kind of orange you can smell. I shift on the bench at the bus stop, hoping to evade what I can of the conversation that the guy beside me has struck up like a match.
“You were born on Halloween?” he asks, gawking as if it’s some incredible thing. I shouldn’t have told him. It’s a deep dark secret, that.
“Yeah.” My bus should be here soon. I stare down the road.
“And you look like a pumpkin!” He slaps his knee. “That’s, what. That’s serendipity. Yeah.”
It’s not serendipity. I don’t even slightly resemble a pumpkin. I glance at him and smile. Smiling scares people sometimes. I should know. I do it a lot.

bonfirelights' writing is very readable and well written.

Hi everyone!

First of all, please take a few moments to check out Riemea's journal to see if you can help her in any way:
I have a situation - UpdateUpdate: Thanks to Stygma, cality and CameronKobe I did manage to get those $100. Thank you so much. :tighthug: Also, SavageFrog, thanks so much for that huge promotion thing you did!
____________________________________________________________________
I really don't like to write about this, but I don't know how to help myself any other way. I have a situation. A money related one. Over the past month bills I need to pay have accumulated, and I need to pay them off at the end of next month. I'm currently short a 100$ which I can't cover with my regular job. So in order to get that money, I'm offering to draw/paint pretty much anything you want in exchange for a little $ (barring the obvious things like gore, full nudity etc.).
My regular commission info is this:

Apart from that I'll also do small doodles, bigger doodles, sketches, anything that doesn't take years to finish (that means no full

It's been a long time since I checked in here. In all honesty, moving away from home kept me busy a few months ago, and since then work has become extremely busy (and because I now live close to work, there's no excuse for me to not stay late!). This has meant that my inbox has got a bit overwhelming and I don't really know where to start with it - I almost feel like I''ve forgotten how to comment usefully on everyone's work and I feel like I've missed too much here on dA. ^^;

Every time I think things will settle down at work, they pick up again. September to November is generally quite busy in my industry (I think), but I'm hoping I can make more time for dA sort of mid-October-ish.

So, yes. This is just a small update from me to say that I'm still around. I'm more active on tumblr at the moment simply because the app is so easy to use get distracted by on breaks at work (and I don't get stressed out at having missed so much like I feel I have on dA...), but from what I understand there will soon be a dA app! :eager:

Anyway, I hope you have all been well and I hope to check in with you all soon. Stay awesome!
